The Product Engineer supports the development, implementation, and testing of products in our Adhesive Anchoring product line. He/she recommends alterations and enhancements to improve the quality of products and/or procedures and supports Manufacturing and QC with testing of non-conforming products and qualification of new equipment and manufacturing processes. He/she manages testing programs conducted internally or using external labs and works closely with certification agencies to get our products certified.

The Product Engineer will also work closely with code and standard developing committees to advance research and code development related to adhesive anchoring. The Product Engineer shall represent Simpson Strong-Tie in Technical Presentations at Conferences. The qualified candidate shall also demonstrate proficiency in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. The Product Engineer will work closely with the Chemistry Team to collaborate on new products and testing.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)

Manage product performance test programs, technical assessment of data, code reports, and certifications. (45%)

Work with the Chemistry Team supporting product development. (15%)

Provide technical and application support for products. (15%)

Support Manufacturing and QC with testing, assessment, and approval of non-conforming products and qualification of new equipment and manufacturing processes. (5%)

Provide technical support to the Concrete Lab. (5%)

Work with Marketing to develop product technical literature. (5%)

Participate in codes and standards development as appropriate. (5%)

Provide internal support and training and evaluate processes and procedures in pursuit of continual improvement. (5%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything above, you have gotten what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering required.
  • A Master of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as an engineer involved in product engineering and/or testing of post-installed anchoring systems.
  • Familiarity with ACI codes related to anchoring to concrete.
  • Familiarity with acceptance criteria from ICC-ES and IAPMO related to anchoring to concrete and/or masonry.
  • Knowledge: Practical knowledge of common concrete and/or masonry construction methods and codes. Familiarity with Simpson Strong-Tie anchoring products systems is a plus.
  • Reading Comprehension/ Speaking/Writing: Ability to read and interpret documents such as architectural and structural plans, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Reasoning: Effective analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Team Player: Demonstrated ability to motivate and work with team members. Must be able to connect, interface, and communicate well with various internal partners in sales, marketing, IT, quality, production, and engineering.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills are needed as clear communication is required to effectively deliver projects to customers and direct and train staff engineers.
  • Software: Frequently used software includes Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as Bluebeam Revu and other software.

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

This job requires <10% domestic travel.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, exempt position is located in West Chicago, Illinois. Remote work will be considered for qualified candidates.

RELOCATION

Relocation will be considered for this position.

PAY

$71,500 - $137,300

* Posted pay range is based upon national average and may vary depending on geographical work location.
