Pay Range
$159,330.00 - $204,636.00 Annually


Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.


Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist with extensive experience using next-generation sequencing to join our team as a Genomics Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in NGS-based assay and process development, expertise in molecular biology, and a track record of success in developing NGS-based analysis pipelines for both existing and novel protocols. In this role you will:

  • Develop an efficient pipeline for automated NGS library preparation (in conjunction with automation engineers).
  • Build and maintain bioinformatics QC and analytical pipelines to support data generation goals.
  • Leverage knowledge of current NGS landscape to inform selection and support strategic acquisition of key infrastructure.
  • Supervise and train junior staff in the daily operation of a high-capacity sequencing facility.
  • Work collaboratively with other scientists and research teams to integrate and apply high-throughput DNA-based technologies to enhance data generation efforts.
  • Work with project team members to establish and maintain rigorous methods for sequence data annotation and documentation.

Qualifications
  • PhD (or M.S. with 5+ years experience) in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, or another relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of the state of the art in NGS methods, instruments, and data analysis techniques.
  • Significant ability to work collaboratively with researchers from diverse fields, including computational and experimental biologists, and provide scientific guidance, support, and leadership as needed.
  • Significant ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and successfully communicate technical information.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Working knowledge of and experience with modern DNA assembly methods and high-throughput molecular cloning.
  • Significant experience designing and/or building large variant gene libraries.
  • Significant experience with high-throughput methods and automation.
  • Significant experience with LIMS-like systems to support technical operations and documentation.
  • Ability to distill complex, technical concepts for productive communication with vendors, program sponsors, community members, and other stakeholders.
  • Significant experience with antibodies and/or related biomolecules.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

This is a Flexible Term appointment, which is for a definite period not to exceed six years.If final candidate is a Career Indefinite employee, Career Indefinite status may be maintained (should funding allow).
