Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Manage the Shipment Planning Team and provide operational support in the distribution process by effectively managing outbound orders to customers. This includes managing the transfer process for external warehouses, shipment planning functions, maximizing the best freight alternatives, balancing the workload in the distribution center, wave creation and Value-Added Services.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

    4 -year college degree or equivalent field experience.
  • 3-5 years front-line supervision experience
  • Strong knowledge of Transportation and Logistics processes.
  • Outstanding team building, conflict management, and communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong computer skills required, including experience with SAP ERP, Manhattan Warehouse Management System, and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Solid Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Ability to take calculated risks based on experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to work in front of a laptop or PC workstation for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional standing, sitting, walking, and talking on the phone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage and coordinate daily execution of all processes related to shipment planning such as: transportation planning, warehouse Management, bill of ladings, and managing the driver's window.
  • Typical duties includes creating the most cost-efficient outbound shipments while staying focused on the customer's needs and cancellation dates, scheduling pickups through communication with carriers and Logistics Center personnel, managing value-added services, such as Web Routing, Special labeling requirements (case labels, placards, manual Bill of Ladings and Advanced Shipping Notices) as well as communicating these requirements to necessary personnel, and coordinating with Logistics Center management to help ensure that the warehouse wave/workload is effectively managed.
  • Manage and coordinate all raw material shipments.
  • Communicate and solve issues with appropriate departments daily (i.e., Customer Care, Customer Service, Shipment Planning, Sourcing, Manufacturing, etc.)
  • Work with Facility Manager to coordinate Shurtape fleet activities including Labor Management, equipment repairs, holiday scheduling, driver absences, and accurate movement tracking.
  • Propose overtime to meet daily goals.
  • Notify the proper personnel (Internal and External) on any related carrier issues (Late pick-ups, No Shows, issues with carriers, etc.) or shipment exceptions (item shortages, etc.).
  • Complete weekly root cause analysis for misses associated with the service report.
  • Develop, lead, and motivate the team and provide feedback to direct reports on a regular basis.
  • Develop talent by position, understand competency requirements, gap, and training needs by position.
  • Uphold excellent department communications (Internal and External).
  • Supervise team performance including recognizing achievements and addressing poor performance regularly.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities to improve the planning process, support change management activities.
  • Compose and administer one on one-performance appraisals.
  • Lead cross training team to be proficient in all office functions.
  • Challenge process workflow, present to management team, and implement recommended changes.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments to perform daily functions.
  • Special projects as assigned by the Logistics Manager.
