POSITION REPORTS TO:

POSITION OVERVIEW

Chemical Blender will be responsible for understanding all requirements to provide 100% first quality products and 100% on-time delivery while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. The Chemical Blender is responsible for Safety, Quality, and productivity requirements of loading / unloading and mixing chemicals.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Associate must follow all safety rules.
  2. Associate must wear appropriate personal protective equipment - to be observed according to plant rules for the area the associate is located as well as for any mix being blended as defined by the mix sheet.
  3. Participate in safety meetings to include leadership of audits of the chemical services department and participation in all other safety meeting activities.
  4. Participate in daily Industrial Team meetings - should be prepared to share any concerns with mixes, timing, and raw material issues - should be there to understand any schedule changes and adjust timing and amounts accordingly.
  5. Unload bulk chemical tanker trucks following work instructions for each bulk chemical, fill out the proper paperwork, maintain a .pdf copy of each shipment in the appropriate folder.
  6. Submit samples to wet lab for testing - retrieve samples after testing - input data on the mix sheet.
  7. Secure the drain system in bulk chemical unloading area prior to and after each unload.
  8. Wash out latex feed lines and pump after each charge of VP latex.
  9. Conduct Inventory Count of All Industrial and Bulk Chemicals once per week and submit to production planning - preferably submitted prior to 9 AM each Monday morning.
  10. Maintain organized and properly 5S'd chemical inventory of raw material totes and drums.
  11. Work with supply chain management to understand when all chemicals are arriving each week - proper planning should be performed with other duties to ensure ample time for incoming approval and proper storage of incoming chemicals as they arrive with as little delay as possible.
  12. Transport all chemicals to their proper staging location promptly after applying green "ok to use" stickers. There are three exceptions to this - these materials shall be approved and staged while being unloaded because they are so bulky we cannot have a "waiting for approval" storage area defined
    1. Totes for Range 9 coating - should be approved as they come off the truck. COA's are sent in advance and all labels can be provided well prior to delivery - Rover will unload the totes - blender will verify the lot on the tote and apply proper labels - rover will stage in ready to use area.
    2. Drums for Range 6 & 8 coating - should be approved as they come off the truck. COA's are sent in advance and all labels can be provided well prior to delivery - Rover will unload the totes - blender will verify the lot on the tote and apply proper labels - rover will stage in ready to use area.
    3. Talc Super Sacks - each delivery is a single lot. All labels should be supplied in advance of the shipment - Talc operator will unload truck (with electric pallet jack) - blender will apply the appropriate label - Talc operator will stage the super sacks in their designated area.
  13. Blend all mixes as according to the weekly schedule and the prescribed mix sheet instructions for each mix
    1. Work with supply chain to understand the proper amount of mix to make for each requirement.
    2. Work with production management (via daily meetings) to ensure proper timing for mix delivery.
  14. Sample the wastewater holding tank weekly and as directed (after rains) for pH and release to drain.
  15. Ensure waste drum filling and proper securing and labeling for waste removal.
  16. Pump reclaims and liquid wastes to waste storage totes.
  17. Properly label and deliver reclaim and waste totes to staging for hazardous waste disposal.
  18. Recycle cardboard drums periodically.
  19. Monitor all chem services equipment for proper operating conditions and enter work orders for maintenance as needed - escalate issues as needed.
  20. Maintain proper lever of supplies in the chemical services department. Example: hoses, tapes, and tools.
  21. Take ownership of housekeeping and 5S for the chemical services department including continuous improvement efforts.
  22. Perform any other assignments deemed necessary by your supervisor.
  23. Understand the environmental impacts and aspects of job-related activities. Follow established Valway and Milliken & Company guidelines concerning use of all chemicals. Comply with all Environmental regulations and Milliken Environmental Policies and Rules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to be certified to operate mobile equipment.
  • Ability to use computer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Previous chemical mixing experience

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to comprehend written/verbal instruction.
  • Computer data entry skills
  • Ability to operate a lift truck with safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to adhere to all plant safety specifications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This job operates in a manufacturing facility. This position is a safety-sensitive position and regularly works around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise level is generally loud. Temperatures can be more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity level can be more than 98% for 100% of day.

SHIFT/WORK HOURS

Shift schedule will depend on open positions at time of hire and will be communicated with new hire paperwork. Weekends and holidays are scheduled depending on business demands.

  • 1stShift:7 AM - 7 PM Monday through Saturday.
