Job Description

This newly created role reports to the Senior Tax Director and is an integral part of the Finance organization. It will support activities to keep Zelis in compliance with indirect tax filing and reporting requirements, including but not limited to analyzing, reviewing, and filing required returns and tracking associated due dates and payments.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Maintain the organization's compliance calendar for indirect taxes and confirm all taxes are being filed/paid where required/applicable.
  • Oversee all invoices and payments associated with annual returns and renewals and ensure they are received and paid in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate the preparation and reconciliation of sales and use tax returns with an outside compliance partner on a monthly basis, and ensuring that related files and support documents are maintained, complete and audit-ready.
  • Reconcile sales and use tax accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Work with outside tax counsel on any Voluntary Disclosure Agreement.
  • Be the main contact point for all indirect tax audits and work with taxing authorities to minimize amounts due upon examination.
  • Maintain and update, when required, customer sales tax exemption forms.
  • Liaise with outside property tax provider to ensure returns are filed accurately and timely and all bills paid timely.
  • Research, track and resolve any issues or notices from outside taxing jurisdictions to resolve any discrepancies between internal tax reporting and jurisdictions.
  • Maintain company informational documents and control distribution within the organization.
  • Maintain tax policy documents internally regarding indirect tax.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Requires an Accounting or Finance degree and 4-6 years of relevant corporate tax experience.
  • CPA is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to work under pressure of inflexible deadlines for tax reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with little supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of sales tax laws and regulations, processes and exemption requirements.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Preferred, but not required experience:
    • Familiar with Vertex Tax Series O
    • Familiar with Work Day Financial Systems

Physical Demands

  • Hybrid role, 1 day a week minimum in office
