Qualification

  • Tends pumps, rotary screen, DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) system, tanks, and other equipment used to pre-treat industrial wastewater.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and complete work orders relating to wastewater equipment (pumps, bearings, meters, skimmers, etc.) and buildings
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and improve facilities and equipment
  • Operate the daily functions of the wastewater pretreatment plan
  • Collects samples, performs simple lab tests, and makes process reports.
  • Reads charts, flow meters and gauges to detect equipment malfunctions.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift, genie lift and/or scissor lift.
  • In the absence of key personnel, the employee's supervisor, or qualified designee (one that has been trained in the key employee's duties) is responsible to complete or delegate the completion of all required tasks and responsibilities

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ yearsrelevantexperience and/or training, required
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or Associate's Degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school, a plus.
  • Abilities to weld and fabricate are a plus.
  • Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Can understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, write English for the following: work orders, instructions, daily reports, and machine manuals.
  • Ability to receive and relate orders/information using various communication devices.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally (training purposes).
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • High school diploma and 2-3 years related experience and/or training. Associate or bachelor's degree in an environmental field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidate must pass the Smithfield online wastewater courses and the Pure Safety environmental classes within three (3) months of employment.
  • Prior experience operating Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) units is preferred.
  • Prior meat/food processing wastewater treatment experience is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group situations to regulatory representatives, and to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to troubleshoot wastewater operations, both chemical and physical, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Basic understanding of wastewater chemistry (BOD, solids, pH, metals).
  • Perform math required for wastewater calculations (basic functions and simple algebraic equations, parts per million conversions to pounds)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Flexible shifts - Must be available for night and weekend on-call status.

  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; work near or with toxic or caustic chemicals, using proper personal protective equipment (such as chemical goggles, hand and body chemical resistant clothing, steel toed footwear and hard hat, safety glasses); risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud when working in the production areas, and provided hearing protection is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types or conditions year-round, including extreme cold and heat.

  • Regularly lift and/or move 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Climb stairs to observe equipment on elevated platforms.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as a chemical suit, splash goggles, cartridge respirator, hearing protection, steel toed work boots, hardhat, and face shield.
