Grounds Operations
Job Summary
This position will maintain the appearance and functionality of campus grounds and functional outdoor spaces, including landscaping, grounds maintenance, and irrigation management. This role requires expertise in grounds keeping practices, irrigation management, and a commitment to ensuring the health and vitality for grass and plant life.
Responsibilities
Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, edging, line trimming, weeding, pruning, spreading pine straw, litter removal, debris removal, and applying herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to maintain the overall appearance and health of campus landscape
Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment and machinery, ensuring proper functionality and safety protocols
Perform general and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment (i.e., replacing edger blades, sharpening mower blades, cleaning air filters, checking tire pressure on mowers and other pneumatic tire-driven equipment)
Operate pressure washers to clean signs, fountains, flatwork, and building entrances as necessary
Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems, including water main and lateral valves, turf rotors, spray heads, shrub heads, PVC and galvanized pipe, drip lines, and controllers, to ensure efficient water distribution and conservation
Identify and troubleshoot irrigation systems for failure or low performing systems and perform necessary repairs or adjustments to ensure plant and grass health
Report with Supervisor to ensure compatibility of irrigation plans ensure compatibility with current and future landscape designs while allocating resources and prioritizing tasks to ensure timely completion of projects and repairs
Maintain accurate records of irrigation schedules, maintenance activities, inventory of supplies and equipment, and watering schedules accordingly
Adhere to safety regulations and environmental guidelines when handling chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides
Adhere to OSHA standards, employ safe practices, and follow safety policies/procedures
Lead student assistants/groundskeepers on irrigation project/repairs as needed
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience
One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, and irrigation maintenance
Proposed Salary
$19.32 - $20.67 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

ABILITIES

Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
Ability to collaborate with team members, supervisor, and superintendent
Ability to identify and resolve issues under limited supervision
Proficiency in operating and maintaining grounds keeping equipment, such as zero-turn mowers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, edgers, blowers, pump sprayers, and irrigation tools
KNOWLEDGE
Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
Familiarity with irrigation systems, including installation, repair, and troubleshooting techniques
Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including warm-season grass care, landscaping, and plant health management
