Position Summary
This position is a technician in the Department of Plant Biology, University of Georgia, Athens to aid in research of the ecology of plant-microbial interactions in the Chung lab, and to assist in day-to-day lab managerial tasks.

  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and willing to work as part of a team, as this position will include keeping track of multiple projects and people.

  • Standing, bending, lifting up to 25lbs, enduring outside elements in the field and heat in the greenhouse for extended periods of time.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities
Conducting and analyzing experiments in the laboratory, greenhouse, and field:
  • Assisting with preparation and processing of plant and soil samples for amplicon sequencing, metagenomics, or transcriptomics.
  • Culturing of fungi or bacteria.
  • Assisting with setup, maintenance, and harvest of greenhouse experiments.
  • Assisting with setup, maintenance, and harvest of field experiments.
  • Data entry and basic analysis and interpretation of results.
  • If the candidate desires, there could be opportunities to write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Duties/Responsibilities
Lab organization and maintenance:
  • Ensure essential supplies are available in the lab, including shipping and receiving.
  • Prepare solutions and media.
  • Work with personnel in the lab to maintain cleanliness and organization of the space.
  • Operate autoclave.
  • Work with graduate students and postdocs to manage scheduling of space and undergraduate student hours.
  • Prompt and effective communication with the PI, lab members, and project collaborators.
