Please note: This position will follow a hybrid schedule working three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday) in our Alpharetta, GA office, and two days per week (Monday and Friday) working remotely.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Reporting to the Budget Director, the Budget Analyst will perform technical work in fiscal budget development, control, analysis and review of revenues and expenditures. This position will also maintain and review and report out financial records and accounts across operational and capital budgets.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Under the guidance and direction of the Budget Director, develop, track, and oversee financial budgets on an annual and monthly basis.
  • Ensure all budgets and financial processes align with company goals.
  • Consolidate the organizational budget for review.
  • Review budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Cognia's standards.
  • Perform specialized and technical work assisting in the development, maintenance, and analysis of budgets, including but not limited to preparation and distribution of funding allocations, preparation of budget amendments, report compilation, and analysis.
  • Analyze financial information for the purpose of identifying potential budget variances, compile statistical information, develop procedures, and conform to established financial practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Compile statistical and financial data from a wide variety of sources (e.g., payroll, fixed assets, expenditures, etc.) for the purpose of developing budget recommendations; provide summaries to other personnel; and/or ensure compliance with established guidelines.
  • Evaluate funding requests for merit and authenticity.
  • Prepare budgetary reports.
  • Defend budget recommendations with data and evidence-based analyses.
  • Track results and compare them to key financial targets.
  • Prepare a monthly Budget Amendment Report to track and explain variances in budget amendments.
  • Track budget allocations and provide regular updates to managers on expenditure levels and budget-related activities.
  • Analyze income/expenditures data to determine cost effectiveness of programs, purchases, and activities.
  • Keep abreast of such requirements as labor contracts, accounting standards, audit findings, budget changes, and federal and state reporting standards.
  • Keep supervisor informed of activities in areas of assignment.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Identify, flag, and analyze potential financial and budgetary risks.
  • Provide financial summaries, reports, and recommendations on a monthly and ad-hoc basis.
  • Ensure all financial decisions and records adhere to legal regulations.
  • Perform duties and fulfill responsibilities that may, from time to time, include related or unrelated tasks.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field required
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial analysis required
  • Experience with Oracle/NetSuite or other budget planning software required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required

  • Proficient in budget creation and analysis via NetSuite Oracle (preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of budgetary and accounting principles, practices, and policies

Anticipated Travel (may include local, national, and/or international travel):

  • Limited travel (0-10%)
  • Travel to Annual All Staff Company Meeting required
