Job Summary

The person selected for this position will be an integral part of a physical therapist education program with a sustained record of student success. The program's mission is providing student-centered education that allows individuals to develop physical therapy skills and knowledge that address the challenges of the rapidly changing healthcare system and the expanding need for evidence-based physical therapy services. The program also works collaboratively with various stakeholders within and outside the physical therapy community to improve the quality of physical therapy care and enhance the scientific basis of professional practice.

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy is primarily responsible for teaching in the Physical Therapy curriculum, but also for conducting research and engaging in service responsibilities. Teaching at the undergraduate level may also be required. This is a fiscal year (12 month), non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate which includes the DPT in physical therapy

Progress toward or completion of an academic doctorate (e.g. DHS, EdD, PhD)

An active, unrestricted PT license and eligibility for a Georgia PT license

Contemporary expertise beyond entry-level education in the following content areas:
  • adult rehabilitation focused on the musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary systems
  • professionalism, communication, documentation, reimbursement
  • evidence-based practice
  • leadership and practice management

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline





Preferred Qualifications

Advanced physical therapy certification in a specialty area

Experience in one or more of the following:
  • full-time teaching/administration in a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program
  • site coordinator for physical therapy clinical education or significant experience as a physical therapist clinical instructor
  • teaching in some other sustained professional or academic capacity
