Preferred Qualifications | Prefer advanced degree and relevant experience in Marine Science or related scientific field; a minimum of 3 years experience working in a laboratory; lab instructional experience at the college level; experience operating small boats; ability to work effectively and collaboratively and to communicate clearly and professionally in both oral and written formats. |
Position Summary | The person in this position coordinates the laboratory facilities at the UGA Marine Institute (UGAMI) on Sapelo Island. This involves ensuring that the Institute is compliant with all environmental safety requirements, providing for safe and responsible use of laboratory facilities by visiting classes and researchers, assisting with instruction, coordinating asset management, and providing administrative support. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies | Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and reporting requirements, including UGA, state and federal regulations for permitting; knowledge of basic laboratory equipment. Proficiency in standard computer programs. Training in specific laboratory techniques and protocols (Chematix, Artemis-IACUC, Onesource inventory) will be available upon hire if not already obtained. |
Physical Demands | Standing or sitting for long periods at a computer or office desk, and moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs). Occasionally working outdoors (on small boats; in the field). |
