Job Summary

The mission of the JPHCOPH is to improve health, and eliminate health disparities and health inequities of rural communities and underserved populations globally through excellence in teaching, public health workforce development, research, scholarship, professional service, and community engagement. The Department of Health Policy and Community Health prepares public health professionals to create and apply evidence-based solutions and policy to enhance the health of communities through academic instruction, research, workforce development, professional service, community engagement, and advocacy. JPHCOPH offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees, as well as a Certificate in Public Health (online). The BSPH degree has four emphasis areas: Community Health Education and Promotion, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, and Global Health (online). The MPH program has seven concentration areas: Biostatistics, Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Health Informatics (online), and Applied Public Health (online). The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has five concentration areas: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Community Health Behavior and Education, Health Policy, and Public Health Leadership (online). The Department of Health Policy and Community Health houses the DrPH in Health Policy and Management, Public Health Leadership, and Community Health Behavior and Education. Additionally, the department houses the MPH in Health Policy and Management and Community Health. The BSPH degree is housed in the Dean's office, but both departments in the college teach in this program. The Assistant Professor will contribute to departmental and college teaching, professional service, and extramurally funded research.

Reporting to the Health Policy and Community Health Department Chair, the Assistant Professor is required to complement current teaching, research, and professional services activities in the college. The professional characteristics ideal for this position include the ability to articulate a clear approach to using their knowledge and skills to integrate principles of community health, health policies, and practices of public health. The potential for securing external funds is also a priority. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to teach and develop graduate and undergraduate courses in public health; serve on dissertation committees in the college; provide service to the community; mentor students; serve on department, college, and university committees; engage in scholarship/creative activity leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals; and be actively involved in professional associations and outreach activities. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate degree (DrPH, PhD, ScD) in Public Health or a closely related area, by August 1, 2024.

Proficiency in Health Policy and Management, Community Health/Health Education, Public Health Informatics, or a closely related field.

Proficiency and experience in quantitative and/or mixed methods research.

Demonstrated experience teaching in public health or related fields.

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

Commitment to engaging with best-practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated research experience in topics relevant to public health and population health.

Demonstrated research experience in community health, public health practice/policy, or health outcomes.

Demonstrated experience working in diverse public health settings.

Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels relying on multiple platforms of delivery, including online and face-to-face instruction.

Graduate with public health training from or teaching/work experience in a CEPH-accredited school or program.

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
