The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) at Georgia State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2024. The CPS department is housed in the College of Education & Human Development and is a collaborative and interdisciplinary department that trains counselors, counselor educators, counseling psychologists, and school psychologists at the master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral levels. Our programs are CACREP, APA, or NASP accredited. Our award-winning faculty provide exceptional education and training to all our students and affirm professional identities across our multiple programs.

Located in the center of downtown Atlanta, Georgia State University is an urban, public R1 institution. Qualifications. The successful applicant must meet one of the following requirements to serve as core faculty in our CACREP accredited Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program: (a) an earned doctorate (by August 1, 2024) from a CACREP-accredited counselor education program; (b) an earned doctorate from a rehabilitation counselor education program prior to January 1, 2018; (c) have been employed as a full-time core rehabilitation counseling faculty for one full year prior to July 1, 2017; or (d) have been a faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year prior to July 1, 2013. In addition, the successful applicant must:
  • Be a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) by the start of the position.  
  • Be license-eligible in Georgia (e.g., LPC).
  • Demonstrate potential for scholarly and empirical research that leads to publications in reputable peer-refereed journals. All areas of scholarly expertise in rehabilitation counseling, chronic illness/disability, and counselor education will be considered for this position.
  • Demonstrate potential to secure external funding.
  • Have experience in (or show potential for) teaching core CACREP and specialized graduate-level courses in counseling.
  • Have experience (or show potential for) providing clinical supervision, especially to rehabilitation counselors-in-training.  
  • Have experience (or show potential for) advising and mentoring doctoral students in research, teaching, counseling, and supervision.
Responsibilities. Presence on campus for face-to-face teaching, supervision, and mentoring is an essential component of the position. The successful applicant will be expected to:
  • Work closely and effectively with department and university staff and faculty.
  • Coordinate and teach sections of practicum/internship for students in the master’s Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling Program.
  • Teach graduate level counseling courses to master’s and doctoral students.
  • Actively engage in research and scholarship, including publishing in and presenting at reputable rehabilitation and counseling outlets.
  • Pursue external funding to support research, scholarship, and training.
  • Serve on student committees (e.g., pre-dissertations, dissertations, comprehensive exams).
  • Provide service to the university, the department, and the profession.
  • Advise and mentor master’s and doctoral students.
