Georgia State University
The Department of History (downtown Atlanta campus) at Georgia State University invites applications for Lecturers in US and/or Modern World History (1500 CE to present) to begin Fall 2023. GSU history lecturers are full time, non-tenure track instructors who make vital contributions to the Department’s undergraduate teaching and programmatic mission, with opportunities for promotion in rank based on the quality of one’s teaching and service. The Department of History welcomes applicants who are committed to creative, engaging pedagogies, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the development of learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Lecturers normally teach four sections of a lower-division survey in their area of expertise per semester. An upper-level course in area of specialization may occasionally replace one section of the survey.
Applicants should submit: 1) a Cover Letter (2 single-spaced pages); 2) a CV (if the doctorate is not already in hand, please indicate the expected date of graduation); 3) a Teaching Statement (1-2 single-spaced pages, that includes a narrative of your teaching goals, approach, and philosophy); and 4) the names, contact information, and affiliations of three potential referees. All four documents should be combined into a single PDF file (LASTNAME.FIRSTNAME.pdf) and submitted as an email attachment to Chair, History Lecturer Search Committee, at historysearch@gsu.edu. Those applicants long-listed by the search committee will be contacted for three reference letters and graduate transcripts. Applications received by March 31, 2023 are assured full consideration; both preliminary and final interviews will be conducted via video conference.
