Job Description

Overview

The Coding Specialist concisely abstracts pertinent medical data from the outpatient medical record so that complete statistical data can be compiled for reporting purposes. This individual accurately codes all diagnoses and procedures for correct billing and accurate statistical data using ICD-9-CM and CPT nomenclatures. The Coding Specialist monitors and processes unbilled accounts and performs various computer related tasks.

The qualified candidate will possess the following:
A. Education
1. Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required; experience in lieu of an associate's degree will require minimum education of a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institute

B. Experience
1. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the various medical specialties
2. Ability to read various types of handwriting
3. One year medical record related experience preferred

C. Licensure/Certification
1. Current accreditation or certification by CCS, CPC. RHIT, RHIA, CRC required
