Position Summary
This position is responsible for communicating the goals, priorities of, and news and information about the University of Georgia to various constituencies through effective media relations and other communications strategies. Primary responsibilities include conducting media relations/communications activities for the University and in coordination with unit PR coordinators (e.g., coordinate, edit, write, and disseminate news releases; create media lists; pitch stories/respond to media calls); producing editorial content covering student success, institutional initiatives and general news and feature content for the university news site, UGA Today, as well as the university's print magazine, Georgia Magazine; and collecting, vetting and analyzing Media Communications data for analytics purposes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Strong sense of news value.
  • Working knowledge of AP style and ability to edit and write news releases effectively.
  • Proven ability to develop, plan, execute, and evaluate projects effectively.
  • Write engaging content for news and feature stories.
  • Ability to identify news stories and pitch stories to media.
  • Familiarity of data management and organization methods and tools such as Excel
  • Knowledge of PR software such as Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack or other.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.

  • Produce original news and feature stories highlighting excellence in strategic areas of growth within the University and work with integrated teams across the Division to create compelling visual assets and promote those stories.
