Position Summary

We are seeking a laboratory technician to join our Biological Materials and Biosynthesis Team through the New Materials Institute. This position will provide an array of technical support, and will collaborate with members of the team to facilitate commercial biomaterial applications. Will work closely with team members to provide technical support (running laboratory protocols, data collection, sample analysis, equipment calibration, etc) in areas of microbial isolation, fermentation and manipulation as well as basic analytical chemistry tasks. Through team research contributions, this position will help establish the team's success in addressing technical challenges with global impact. This position will involve extensive hands-on laboratory work and coordination and ordering of laboratory supplies.

An interest in microbiology and applied chemistry.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with fermentation process. Technician will be involved with set-up of fermentation equipment, production of media for fermentors, monitoring fermenting process, recovery of fermentation products and purification of biopolymers from fermentation. Technician will assist with quality control measures for fermentation process including cleaning and sterilization of fermentors and culture of fermenting organisms and any contaminates.

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with bacterial synthesis, Technician will assist with culture, molecular characterization biochemical characterization and biopolymer expression manipulation of bacterial strains used in the fermentation process. Technician may also assist with isolation and characterization of novel strains of bacteria isolated from field settings that could have importance in biopolymer synthesis, and oechnician will assist with quality control measures for fermentation process including cleaning and sterilization of fermentors and culture of fermenting organisms and any contaminates.

Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies. Technician will order, receive and maintain supplies used in the fermentation and bacterial synthesis.
