PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the Information Systems & Security Specialist performs advanced technical duties and assumes responsibilities related to the security, maintenance, and monitoring of core infrastructure services such as: Identity Access Management, Security Monitoring, and Software as a Service systems. This position will also assist in the management of security infrastructure and security procedures.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor organizational systems and applications for security breaches or intrusions.
  • Identify potential vulnerabilities and respond to security incidents, escalating as necessary.
  • In partnership with other IT teams, remediate cybersecurity threats and ensure the timely update of security systems and applications.
  • Ensure that the organization's security solutions are fully functional and up to date to protect against current threats.
  • Implement and maintain security measures related to user access, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive information.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of security training programs to ensure that all employees are aware of security protocols, policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the latest cybersecurity threats, technologies, and trends, and continuously educate staff on how to recognize and avoid potential security risks.
  • Represent and participate in the Claremont College's Consortium Information Security committee.
  • Manage the lifecycle of user accounts in Azure AD and Office 365, from creation and configuration to deprovisioning, ensuring secure and efficient access control and adherence to the principle of least privilege.
  • Implement and manage group memberships, shared mailboxes, and distribution lists in Office 365.
  • Regularly review and improve account management policies and practices, stay updated with new Azure and Office 365 features, and contribute to strategic planning to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Assist client services support team as needed.
  • Participate in the initiation and completion of strategic projects, including integration with other College applications and third-party services.
  • Develop documentation as well as maintain standard operating procedures and configurations.
  • Assist with coordination of special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned.
  • Monitor and respond to tickets in help desk system in a timely manner, in partnership with the client services support team.
  • Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Knowledge of security protocols, encryption, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and other cybersecurity tools.
  • Knowledge of the Azure eco-system, Microsoft EntraID, and Office 365 ecosystem is required.
  • Awareness of current and emerging cybersecurity threats and trends.
  • Understanding of malware, phishing, and other attack vectors.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and address potential vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Skill in interpreting logs, alerts, and other system outputs for signs of suspicious activity.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and respond to emergent security challenges.
  • Strong skills in critical analysis and creative problem solving.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex topics to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, collaborating with other IT professionals to ensure an organization's security.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write security related policies and technical documentation.
  • Ability to diagnose issues promptly and identify the most effective solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, especially in high-pressure situations or incidents.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of community stakeholders and third-party providers to deploy scalable and secure infrastructure solutions that align with the College's standards and best practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience is requiredor any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job.

Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

Preferred certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.

The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm.Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required to complete work during off-peak periods and in response to emergencies.

Hourly rate range: $35.00-$42.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

None.
