About the Department
The Department of Learning Sciences at Georgia State University invites applications for a Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor position in Special Education to begin in May 2024. The Department of Learning Sciences is a collaborative and interdisciplinary department that is focused on a better understanding of how people learn, and how to design innovative learning environments. At the undergraduate level, we offer bachelor's degrees in Sign Language Interpreting, Special Education, Human Learning and Development, and a minor in Educational Psychology. At the graduate level, we offer degrees in Applied Behavior Analysis, Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology, and Special Education. Clinical faculty members within the Department of Learning Sciences are highly valued, significantly contribute to the teaching and training within our programs and serve in important leadership roles within our department.
Position Description
This position will support the teacher candidates who are admitted into the program via the PROPEL Project teacher residency program. The PROPEL Project (Partnership for Residency Opportunities for Paraprofessionals, Educators, and Leaders Project) is a Teacher Quality Partnership grant sponsored by the US Department of Education. The purpose of the PROPEL Project is to increase the number of highly qualified teachers in high need content areas who are committed to rural and urban schools and who are equipped with knowledge that contribute to their long-term retention in the educational field for their entire career. The Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor position will be contingent upon continued funding of the grant by the sponsor. The position will end when the project closes in September 2028.

While this position is housed in the Department of Learning Sciences, this role is supported a USDOE Teaching Quality Partnership Grant called the PROPEL Project, so duties for this position will align with goals of the project as well as the needs of the Learning Sciences department. The responsibilities for this position include, but may not be limited to:

* Teach four courses each semester (4/4 teaching load) which will include practicum supervision/coaching (courses occur during the day and in the evening and may include face-to- face, hybrid, or online instruction);
* Support and participate in professional learning communities for current students and/or alumni;
* Engage in recruitment, induction, and dissemination efforts related to PROPEL Project goals;
* Collaborate with PROPEL project P-12 and IHE partners and stakeholders for recruitment, program development and professional learning opportunities;
* Participate in PROPEL Project team meetings and events (both in person and virtual).
Required Experience
This applicant must also demonstrate a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in inclusive, public P-12 instructional spaces.
Required Education
At a minimum, the successful candidate will have a master's degree (by May 2024) in special education or other closely related disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Educational Specialist or earned Doctorate in special education, teacher education or curriculum and instruction would be preferred.
The ideal candidate would have prior experience with coaching and/or supervising teachers and/or teacher candidates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
Must hold or be eligible for a clear, renewable teaching certificate in either the general or adapted curriculum based on the criteria set by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
